Re: The great Polysics new-wave reference collection.
Pretty good list
I'm proud to say I got maybe 75% of these myself. It's not a New Wave reference but I would definitely bet that "Moog is Love" was 'inspired' by Daft Punk's "Robot Rock"

It was a great song, but I can't remember the name of it
The Name of the song is 'Video Boy'
Great Brain is a cover of a P-Model song.
T-Riangle uses lyrics from 'Top Secret Man' by Plastics
Cant believe I never noticed this before, but Code4 is pretty much 'Enola Gay' by OMD:
They've also appeared on a lot tribute albums covering tracks such as Spitz; Cherry, Soft Cell; Memorabilia and a Metallica song (I forget which one)
Polysics covered Metallica's "Enter Sandman"
Hi, I'm new! Thanks for welcoming me into your addiction support group! ![]()
I think I found three things that you guys left out,
When I first heard "Pony and Lion" from We Ate the Machine, I thought that it had the same drum intro as DEVO's "Ton O' Love" from Freedom of Choice. I know it isn't EXACTLY the same, but it's pretty close! You can compare for yourself:
POLYSICS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yS8UA40BkU0
DEVO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTGrHXG77oc
Also, the bass riff in "Wachuwannadu" or "What do you wanna do" (Spelling?) sounds like it's taken directly from David Bowie's "Hang On to Yourself." BOTH AWESOME SONGS.
POLYSICS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-t-TMXxgKFY
Bowie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gGe6relLGI
Finally, Hiro's stage performance includes a lot of him hitting himself in the face or pretending to get hit. This is an homage to David Byrne of the Talking Heads.
I agree with the original post, POLYSICS embodies all the bands I loved growing up in the 80's, not just in style, but in spirit too. Rock and roll wasn't always serious, it used to be fun!

Not music related, so I won't add to the OP, but I just realized the last sound effect you year in the song "2 Faces" is the death melody from the video game Burgertime.
Kayos hair during the 'New Wave Jacket' era is very similar to the hair of the girls in Devo's 'Doctor Detroit' video.
Here's a new one from IAmSancho's incredible BGV project:

It's............................Booji Boy?!
haha yes, that totally is!
It'd be awesome if they dug up that mask and used it in a live show. I could imagine Hiro wearing it and doing Kayo's parts from New Wave Jacket in falsetto. Like what DEVO themselves do with Beautiful World.

Oh god, that would be so awesome to see Hiro do that.
Hahaha, Incredible idea!
My love for this band began as a simple game of "spot the DEVO," and I believe I've found something else. Apparently the live performance of "New Wave Jacket" is full of DEVO elements.
1. The guitar humping at the beginning of the song is exactly what Jerry Casale does with his bass at the end of "Mr. DNA"
2. Hiro and Fumi both do the "Bob1 DEVO dip" from Uncontrollable Urge during the drum fill halfway through each verse
3. There are a few robot moves in there between lines, just like in WHICH!

Me 'n Mistabeen were talking about number one earlier, and I should have known that it was something DEVO related!!
Good work, nice spotting skills!!
Also, at this scene in a DEVO music video (this video is just a compilation of MV's), a little short cut is the same...

The hat also resembles DEVO's energy dome hat.

DEVO played a semi-acoustic set on their tenth anniversary tour, documented on "Now It Can Be Told". POLYSICS played a semi-acoustic version of Commodoll on their tenth anniversary show.
Coincidence?

OK, I took a quick look and didn't see this one pointed out. Sorry if I missed it!
Polysics used King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man" as a template for their cover of Spitz's "Cherry."

Pretty amazing on many levels! Their cover of "Cherry" has long been one of my all time favorites, and then I heard the KC song and was all like OMG WUT my mind is exploding!
Wow that is really similar! I just listened to the original Cherry, at first I didn't recognize it, but after a few seconds it all made sense. Good song, I like both versions
How neat! That is similar, very cool!
And also mentioned in this thread was how Dry or Wet is like XTC's NEON SHUFFLE, and I have got to say that I love both songs now! I love the Polysics version, but wow, that XTC song is really awesome! It's cool listening to the Polysics songs and then the songs they're taking parts from.
I just noticed that Too Much Tokyo sounds A LOT like the intro to Major Tom by Peter Schilling.
I ran into ジューシィ - フルーツ - ジェニーはご機嫌ななめ on youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMAO9ySgQLA
The band's name is Juicy fruits, the song I have no real idea. There is no wikipedia article in English about the band.
The song however is obviously used as inspiration for the song Miss Donuts.
One I just noticed now:
That one blasting guitar riff at the beginning of "Super Sonic" sounds awfully similar to the guitar work in Neu's "Hallogallo."
EDIT: Just listened to both versions of "Cherry," and this is one of the few cases where I actually like the original version better. Not that the Polysics' cover doesn't have its good points; I just think their take doesn't really capture the vibes quite as well.
