Topic: POLYSICS European Tour 2013

England, France, Switzerland and Netherlands confirmed so far.

Re: POLYSICS European Tour 2013

This thread should probably be moved to the UK or/and World Tours section...

Anyway, this whole tour appears to be falling together at the last minute, which might be why the band has not said a peep anywhere about it. Maybe they're waiting until they have all their dates firm - sure looks like a lot of back road French joints so far, in any case almost only  festivals...

I'm wondering if maybe Polysics is one of the first in line to drink from the huge pot of cash the Japanese government put on the table last month to promote J culture overseas:

http://world.time.com/2013/07/01/japan- … to-be-cool

And maybe that is why it seems to be an odd mish-mash of festivals, almost all in France (including the French section of Switzerland), rather than clubs in the key cities of other major EU countries...

That was amazing! I loved how Hayashi points out the person at 9:05 who keeps talking during the pauses.

Re: POLYSICS European Tour 2013

I don't know how to feel about this. I'm trying to love the band with every fiber of my being because of all the good times they have given me in the past.
But they have changed so much over the years, specially after Kayo left. It feels to me like they lost their spark.
Seeing the Amsterdam footage looks like they are phoning it in. Compared to their older live gigs it lacks the energy and rawness they once had.

Am I just overreacting here? Your input on this existential crisis is greatly apreciated tongue

Re: POLYSICS European Tour 2013

Yo Mistabeen - I'm feelin' your vibe...

The funk I'm feelin' about all of this started long before they set off on this "Euro" tour.  As a fan, I'm having to really push my faith - a test of marriage I guess...

in their defense, maybe they're legitimately burned out.

Although Kayo's departure was known well in advance, she was a load bearing member of the former band's infrastructure. Then there was only a few months between Budokan 2010 and RIJF2010 when the new trio emerged in gray suits of mourning with a keyboard train-wreck prominent on stage.  Not much time to shore up after the cave-in.

The Shibuya-AX concert, days before the profound punch of the triple disasters in March, 2011 revealed, at least for me, a band that had re-invented itself and was trippin' to a new groove that was pretty awesome.

In the intervening 30 months they don't seem to have gone much of anywhere other than to change into fluorescent orange jump-suits that are either meant to announce the end of sitting shiva for the loss of Kayo, or their incarceration in a hell-jail of ideas lost, never again to be found.

Then, this "Euro" tour, really a tour of France with some time in London to do some drinking, was so poorly planned - at least for us outside of France and neighboring villages.

On the other hand, it could well be that the demographics show that they have a better chance of making a European foothold in France, due to France's blatant intoxication with Japan's Kawaii, idol bands, and Kyari Pamyu Pamyu - not necessarily in that order. Money follows money it seems.

If the Frogs like the Ps, then maybe they'll be back next year with broader ambitions...

But if that scenario is true, where does that leave the USA? The USA, where Polysics arguably have their largest international fan base? Are they afraid to enter the land that Kayo now calls her home? That sounds totally stupid. And yet...WTF!!?? Who in the Polysics marketing department is driving this starship?

Have I drifted off the argument that maybe the band is burned out? I think I have. Sorry...

They've been playing a non-stop and ferocious live schedule in the land of the rising sun in the last year or more.  Maybe they are so klanged out that they can't even hear themselves anymore.  Or maybe they are all exhausted, normal human beings who need to maybe get into a "real life", and maybe Kayo was the first of the group to come to terms with reality.

I'm not saying they're toasted to a crisp with no hope to return. I'm just saying creative and marketing decisions seem to be being made with little or no regard to historical precedent  nor for loyal international fandom. And that kind of suggests somebody is asleep at the wheel.

Hope is not lost. The vehicle can still be kept on the road before careening off of the cliff. In my opinion, they just have to wake up , take a break, and look for their new path.  OR, they have to retire.  They've had a great run. If there is more to discover, then cool, keep on goin'. But if the horse is dead, stop beating on it.

On the other hand, I could be completely off of the mark and they are on their way to new unbelievable successes. I'm just sayin' I agree with Mistabeen, these guys are not playing at full tilt, and not just on stage. Everything seems to be forced or stressed in some way.

Re: POLYSICS European Tour 2013

Oh man they compensated the recorder for I My Me Mine with a kazoo!

In regards to their stage presence, it's definitely different. They don't have the same amount of energy, but it's great to see that they're doing their best to try and make everything work out. I am enjoying all of these videos so far, and I can't wait to see more!
