Re: If you like Polysics, you'll like...

A drunk guy in the pub the other night saw my makeshift POLYSICS badge went on about Devo been amazing and suggested a band to me called Hello Lobster, dont know if you guys have heard of them before. Checked them out, they sound like a diffrent version of The Aquabats but i thought you guys might like em!

Because drunked people have the best taste in music as shown as he danced the night away to Public Enemy, good times.

Forty Two

Re: If you like Polysics, you'll like...

Forgot to mention the classic Man or Astro-Man?

Don't need to explain why Poly fans would enjoy them.  Hit up the link yourself.

It's not really POLYSICS style, it's way more surgary, but YMCK is a good band, they're chiptune 8-bit music thats amazingly poppy and sugary.

Thanks for the recommendation, they are very sweet. Grabbing the lp's now. Looks like more cash is going to CDJapan again.

Re: If you like Polysics, you'll like...

I really like YMCK from what I've heard, which is admittedly not very much at all. I've been meaning to get up to speed, but had little money to buy their stuff and couldn't find it to download in the meantime.

On a similar tip 8bit bEtty might be worth a gander....

You can download the stuff from the site.

Re: If you like Polysics, you'll like...

You guys might want to check out Titus Gein, who do Electro Metal. Polysics reminded me quite strongly of Titus Gein until they forced their way right into my head, elbowed everyone else out and staked sole claim.

The keyboardist/guitarist/sometime drummer is a lovely, sickeningly talented, multi-instrumentalist guy I know who used to be drummer in my sister's old band many moons ago. They'll rock yr socks off.

Re: If you like Polysics, you'll like...

listen to Anamanaguchi if you guyz like 8-bit rock.

i suggest listen to blackout city

Re: If you like Polysics, you'll like...

Hi-Posi - Seizen Setsu. She has released a few albums but this is by far the best. Very manic electro/pop/rock. The guitars on this album sound especially Poly-esque.

Re: If you like Polysics, you'll like...

They Might Be Giants

Wikipedia lists them as "alternative rock," but their sound is all over the place.  All of their songs have really quirky / nonsensical lyrics.  A few songs of theirs I'd like to recommend are "Statue Got Me High," "Birdhouse In Your Soul," "Subliminal," "Ana Ng," and "She's An Angel."  They've also done a cover of "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" that was aired on Tiny Toon Adventures way back in the day (awesome show big_smile ) as well as one of Devo's "Through With Being Cool" for Sky High (I've only heard the 30sec sample of that one on Amazon, but it sounds decent).

Semper felicitas.

Re: If you like Polysics, you'll like...

Peelander-Z!!!  Japanese action-comic punk band from the planet Peelander!

Imagine if Polysics were inspired by the Aquabats and the Beastie Boys instead of DEVO.
Live shows come complete with pro-wrestling, giant monsters, human bowling, and random audience members on guitar, bass, and drums! I love this band.

Their old punk sound: S-T-E-A-K
Their new pop sound: So Many Mike, Ninja-High Schooool
Awesome live footage: Mad Tiger, SXSW 2009

Re: If you like Polysics, you'll like...

You don't need to just stick to early P-Model.  Check out the tune "2D or not 2D" on youtube.  It's from P-Model's 9th (?) album.  I can definitely see Poly-fans going for that.  "Logic Airforce" is also a monster tune.

XTC - "White Music" is a great reference point if you like the energetic and goofy side of Polysics.  We all know that XTC turned out to be one of the best pop bands of all time, but must people don't really like their debut because it's too crazy, too much of a sugar rush.  Well, it is, but hey if you're a fan of Polysics then you must like that feeling smile  IMO it's one of their best albums along with Black Sea and Skylarking.

Re: If you like Polysics, you'll like...

P-MODEL's 1992 self-titled album is excellent all the way through. Better than In A Model Room, in my opinion.

Big Body isn't as good in general but Chevron as a track is probably better than anything on the self-titled.

These guys are called Floppy. They're a Japanese chip-pop band.
Their January release, "Over Technology", contains a song remixed by Mark Mothersbaugh.
Probably worth checking out for most users here.

DAT Politics ??

I'm not even gonna try to justify this...

Edit: Also look at this :3 http://www.discogs.com/Capsule-Player/master/252030 and btw I haven't properly listened to these myself yet!

Laaaaaate edit: I know 002 know's about these (why didn't you say here ._.?) the alledged poorer carbon copy of POLYSICS: http://www.last.fm/music/Motocompo where someone mentioned these: http://www.last.fm/music/OVERROCKET

Also on a slightly random note these (i.e. him... confusingly): http://www.last.fm/music/she

I like last.fm but there's a lot of room for improvement: there is currently a severe lack of cross-correlation where instead similar artists are based on direct fads and no open-mindedness.

Re: If you like Polysics, you'll like...

Has anyone mentioned Lemon Demon? It's the guy who does the potter puppet pals, I really like his newer music. He's a fan of polysics and his music is kinda unconventional like polysics, lots of electronics but not necessarily new wave-esque.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ycoAd9qCzQ
^one of his better songs imo big_smile

Re: If you like Polysics, you'll like...

The most recent new Lemon Demon songs sound a lot more new-wavey.

Re: If you like Polysics, you'll like...

Lemon Demon's newest album (View Monster) has to be one of my favorites ever. Damn Skippy is great too. I love that as you listen from each album to the next you can hear how much he's improved as a songwriter and musician. :')

Edit#2: here's a band called Oh NO ITs POk. They are big fans of POLYSICS and come from somewhere in Europe.
Most importantly they have just released their first album, and it's pretty good. The first 500 downloads are free, so get downloading. http://ohnoitspok.blogspot.com/

It's baby baby baby baby portable rock!

Re: If you like Polysics, you'll like...

Has anyone listened to Three Trapped Tigers? I'm interested in what ppl think of them: personally I think they are post-new-wave and the future.
Also I'll also mention in a meh way Adebisi Shank. I haven't really listened to them but someone made a YouTube comment comparing one of their riffs to POLYSICS so that should count for something hmm

Re: If you like Polysics, you'll like...

It's the internet champ!

The new Graham Coxon single seems like something a POLYSICS fan would enjoy.
Some cool synth work, an old drum machine and a driving guitar.

I'm the head turning around 23 seconds in on the video.

Re: If you like Polysics, you'll like...

Katemonkey and I were nearly in the video for that, but the shoot was in the middle of nowhere and we couldn't get there easily. Looking at all the crawling around on the ground they had to do, I'm only half sorry...
