Re: Rock In Japan 2010

Shizu reported on the concert! Seems we have some new songs! EDIT: I found out the names of the new songs and a website report! big_smile

http://ro69.jp/quick/rijfes2010/detail/38806

1: BUGGIE TECHINICA
2: Mach 肝心
3: Tei! Tei! Tei!
4: Boil
5: TOO MUCH TOKYO (Hiro apparently brought out a Vuvuzela here XD)
6: HOW DO YOU DO (sung by Fumi apparently big_smile)
7: Rock Wave Don't Stop
8: Coelakanth is Android
9: Beat Flash
10: United
11: Digital Coffee
12: Kaja Kaja Goo
13: URGE ON!!
14: Shout Aloud!

The uniform looks VERY similar to the ones here. The gray is new :]. The POLYSICS patch is on their left shoulder. Hiro's birthday was today too!

For Buggie Techinica, I think that it says that Hiro and Fumi switch around with the vocoder. In TOO MUCH TOKYO Fumi does Kayo's chorus. I can't wait for somebody to get this uploaded! :]

Re: Rock In Japan 2010

All the links at the bottom of that website are poly related, some pics of the new uniform etc, but no video yet!
There's one shot of Hiro playing in some other band band in the old orange uniform, anyone know anything about that?

i like the new look! More serious somehow, can't wait to see how they pull it off live, will be really interesting!

Excited!

And they are pimping those shades!!

The design on the badges kind of makes me think of the inside of the Rocket single. It had a lot of those sound waves in it, didn't it?

Re: Rock In Japan 2010

I think the audio waves are a nod to the DEVO "Shout" era:

Re: Rock In Japan 2010

I was looking at the official Polysics website, and it appears that the Rock in Japan Festival 2010 will be broadcast next week right here:

Can anyone translate the info and post some specifics?

Re: Rock In Japan 2010

The one we're waiting for is DAY-3 which is on the 25th.

My birthday! How thoughtful of them!

Playing with the buttons, it looks like it costs 965 yen to watch. Is this correct? Can anyone here read japanese?

Re: Rock In Japan 2010

Sad, according to shizu, we'll only see a few of the songs played from the concert.

On the 22nd, the digest special will feature Tei! Tei! Tei!

On the 25th, it will show a song called "Heavy POLYSICK" and "Buggie Techinica"

I would've liked to see more :[.

Re: Rock In Japan 2010

Tei! Tei! Tei! is on youtube.  Just search for Polysics.  They use a few obvious automatic effects, but you can't say they aren't trying.  The stage is littered with keyboards, and both Hayashi's and Fumi's mic stands are double equipped for what I assume is vocoding.

Re: Rock In Japan 2010

It sounds really different! But I still like it! What I find odd is that from all of the Rock In Japan's they played, this year is the only time that they played at GRASS STAGE. They always used to play at LAKE STAGE. :\

Re: Rock In Japan 2010

To me the biggest issue in this is the fact that we hear Fumi doing kayo's vocals. I love fumi, and she did vocals to some songs in the past that just kick ass. But she doesn't have the voice to do kayo's parts, and that's why it sounds off.
I am looking forward to hearing some new songs that were made FOR fumi's voice.

A second issue I had is that while they have all those synths scattered across the stage, they used prerecorded synths for tei tei tei. This looses a lot of the raw power of playing it live.

still tho, they kick ass big_smile can't wait to see more

Re: Rock In Japan 2010

eh, Tei Tei Tei is a pretty robust song.  It can take it.  Baby BIAS and each life should be retired, but those few songs where Kayo only did a small line or two should stay.

I'd rather old stuff be seriously re-written instead of using pre-recorded sounds.  They've always used pre-recorded sounds, I should mention; but it does feel odd when someone isn't there to manage them on the fly if timing falls off a bit or anything else.  A lot more pressure is on the trio now to play a very tight song.

Maybe a reason they haven't re-written a song like Tei Tei Tei with guitar effects or something instead is a sign that they still haven't ruled out getting a new synth player down the line.

Heavy POLYSICK and BUGGIE TECHINICA are on youtube, not really good quality though, somebody filmed it off their TV.

Re: Rock In Japan 2010

Yeah, too much reliance on the automatic sounds.  I was expecting more.  It's almost as if they have someone off stage programming the vocode and everything.  I hope the new songs don't fall into the same trap.

Re: Rock In Japan 2010

I think the band is in an "in between" stage right now. They had a choice to make when Kayo decided to leave, and it was one of two things. They could either play all of their older songs exactly the way they were, but only with prerecorded sounds that made it exactly the same as if Kayo was still there, or they could shake things up a bit and change things around a little in the songs we know and love. I think they made the right choice here, because if they tried to make it seem like nothing changed (at least for now till they get a new keyboardist. or if), then I feel it wouldn't be progress. It wouldn't be Polysics progress. I bet us fans would find something definitely wrong with something they did if they proceeded like that, because Kayo ISN'T there, and we can't pretend like she is. But with what they're doing now, just changing things a little bit but keeping the core song the same, it makes it more interesting. It shows that they're willing to adapt to the hole that Kayo left. I think for now, till they start getting into their Kayo-less groove, things may be like this. But I am happy about what they're doing, 'cause I think it's the best thing they could do.

For their first concert as the three man Polysics, I think it's starting out great. Considering that they haven't had a Kayo-less concert since 1998, it's going to take some used to all around.

I loooooove how Fumi runs onto the stage in the Heavy Polysick/Buggie Technica video. They all seem more personable now, it seems. Even Fumi started to talk some during Budokan, when usually only Hiro had the mic. And we can't forget Yano stealing the stage for 15 minutes... hehe. It's nice seeing the band act out like this smile

Re: Rock In Japan 2010

Can't wait to see these songs again and see how different they are. And I hope they get uploaded too, even though they may get taken down quickly again..... sad shame, 'cause I wasn't able to download the Heavy Polysick/Buggie Techinca video.........

And well, we kind of DO see a new song with this set. Too Much Tokyo has never been played live before, and we'll be able to see it now. I can't wait!!!!

In an off topic news, I now have a copy of FOR YOUNG ELECTRIC POP. Very cool!!!!! The CD is similar to the NEU CD, but the entire case is yellow and not just the back part of it (instead of being clear like practically every other CD out there). And I didn't know it, but Kayo wrote a song on that album! She wrote It's Up To You and her and Fumi both wrote Secret Candy. The things you learn from getting the physical releases!! big_smile

I will only say this:

Myself as a Korg user wrote:

There's no way to time a vocoder to match 2 dif ppl screaming...
I'd be very sad if I find out there's someone else hiding backstage with a vocoder...

Doesn't mean I don't like new Polysics.
