Topic: Guitar Project

First person to guess what an obsessive POLYSICS fan with too much time on his hands and a cheap Telecaster is planning gets a prize!

P.s. there is no prize

I'll post some pics when I get started...

Re: Guitar Project

Haha I have been tempted in the past but I don't have the room for that kind of a mess. I'd probably saw my hand off anyway.

Re: Guitar Project

You could graft the guitar directly onto the stump. It's what Bruce Campbell would do!

Re: Guitar Project

I wanted to do it in a kind of step by step kind of way to show how I did it, but I didnt have my camera. I later remembered my phone has one so sorry about the quality.

Heres my Big Boss Tele so far!

Pretty accurate I think...

I didnt use the same brand of tele as HJiro. I wanted to, but I tried one of the same make out and it was just horrible to play. Instead I used an 80s Squire. Amazing neck on it!

I'm pretty sure when Hiro made his guitar, he was trying to replicate a LaBaye 2x4.

http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z108/rocwatch/LaBayeA.jpg

Because of this I've been thinking of putting the sratchplate back on it to make it a little more LaBaye esque

Whatcha think?
Or maybe I should just go for all out reproduction??
I'm really excited about it though, I think its gonna be a reeal cool guitar!

Re: Guitar Project

ha. that's awesome smile

Re: Guitar Project

OK change of plan. Because my tele is made of plywood, cutting into the side of the body for the control plate could damage the whole guitar, so ive decided not to do the complete reproduction job of Hiros guitar and just do semi my own design. I've cut down the control plate removing the tone knob (who uses it anyways?) and made the hole for it on the front. because of this change the guitar wont look that much like hiros, so i thought what about black and white like Bob 1s 2x4?

Whatcha think?

Re: Guitar Project

Woah, it's the Big Boss 2.

I'm gonna have to go get a Telecaster.

Heheh, I got mine secondhand for

Re: Guitar Project

Did you ever get further in the making of this?

Re: Guitar Project

I sure did!
I finished the thing, just never got round to posting it on here.

Here she is!

I don't often call guitars a 'she', you know.

http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z108/rocwatch/guit2.jpg

It's ridiculously light as you can imagine. It was a light guitar to begin with, even before i cut it up.

http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z108/rocwatch/guit3.jpg

I put the input on the back next to the strap button, just in case is was uncomfortable or got in the way when sitting down and playing. Turns out it's impossible to sit down with anyways big_smile

Showing it off with my moog (which is love btw)

http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z108/rocwatch/guit5.jpg

This is pretty much what i had in my mind as far as the colour scheme goes. turned out pretty well I think!
The only thing about it is i cut off the tone knob, which means its stuck in full tone position. Usually i would be fine with this, I never turn the tone knob down from full on any of my other guitars, but this guitar has lost pretty much its entire body, so its very trebley. No matter though, its nothing the tone control on an amp wouldn't sort big_smile

Re: Guitar Project

Hiro should get in touch with Fender.

Market this as the Toisucaster.

Re: Guitar Project

Stu, you bad-ass! The Toisucaster shall rule all!

One day you'll be playing along-side Hayashi-san himself. smile
