Re: This Ain't No Picnic 2008

We'll be in town all weekend - only at the festival on the Sunday though.

Re: This Ain't No Picnic 2008

I'm in for a meetup - need to know when and where beforehand cos I have limited transport in the UK.

Re: This Ain't No Picnic 2008

if you send me your mobile number then i can tell you where i am and when in london we can meet.

Re: This Ain't No Picnic 2008

The venue is pretty much right in the centre of London I think so that's nice and easy. Guy, I'll just give you a call on the day when I know what I'm doing but I'm definitely up for meeting everyone somewhere.

Re: This Ain't No Picnic 2008

I'll be at the gig and in London for the weekend. Problem is that fate is conspiring to make about five groups of people I know come to the city for different reasons at the same time, so my schedule is absolutely packed. However, I would like to meet you all, so if you happen to see someone at the gig wearing one of Mbedd's bootleg ENO T-shirts in black (and most likely, weather-dependent, a pair of red converse and a similarly coloured bag that looks like a giant LEGO brick) then come and say hi. I'm lovely and I know you all are too.

Best to follow the high-pitched squealing and smell of soiled underwear to somewhere near the front of the stage.

Not long now!

Re: This Ain't No Picnic 2008

I wish I could go sad
No money I'm afraid
Still low after coming back from Japan
Although I guess I did see them in Tokyo so its kind of OK
Still
The thought of Polysics being only a train ride away and not being able to see them is a bit disheartening sad

Re: This Ain't No Picnic 2008

I feel so sorry for you Stuart tongue

So I'm guessing we're just gonna hit a pub somewhere near the venue, who's going? Me (and friends), Guy (and friend/s?), Rob (you on your own?), Paul from Hastings is probably meeting up with us too, met him at the Poly-Brighton gig and then the Bo-Peep gig. Are Mr and Mrs Mongkey in on this pre-gig meet? Do we all have everyone's numbers between us?
I'm excited I am!! I'm going for a drink  in Milton Keynes with Chunk from The Goonies on Saturday night (seriouslol) so it shall be an immense weekend!

Re: This Ain't No Picnic 2008

Re: This Ain't No Picnic 2008

marktobias wrote:

I'm going up with Karina who Mark knows so all is well big_smile

Re: This Ain't No Picnic 2008

And Karina is wonderful! big_smile

Hope you had a good time in Portugal! You've been going away too much recently, no fair!

Nothing more arranged than you know about dude. It looks like you'll have to arrange with Rob when you're meeting and the rest of us will just be phoning round and arranging it on the day.

From thisaintnopicnic.co.uk

"Music kicks off at 12:30pm both days and wraps up at 10:30pm."

Oh and I think one of the maps is wrong, it's right near Temple tube station. As seen here

Back in Madrid safe and sound. This weekend was brilliant, and that was my favourite Polysics gig. Great to meet up with you guys, photos and video are on their way. smile

Re: This Ain't No Picnic 2008

Technically it was the second to worst Polygig I've been to (that's only out of about five gigs) but I think the company made up for that. A big shout out to Rob, Guy, Karina, Paul, Robert, Kate, Cas, Andy and Dan (and some alcohol) for keeping me awake.

I think maybe I got too carried away with trying to say hello to the band and then them being too busy to chat disappointed me a bit. Can't say the set list was that great either. Also I think it was clear that they were all a bit tired after gigging three or four nights in a row and then coming straight over from France that morning. To be fair I was quite tired myself so that didn't help.

My highlight was telling Yano I love his "hai, sou desu" in I Ate The Machine, him giggling rather camply and then him writing that in a speech bubble next to "that creature thing" when he signed my album sleeve. Also I fell too much in love with the merch girl and probably scared her a little bit.

On the whole... bloody good weekend!

Sweet!

My highlight was that they clearly recognised me from Madrid and were happy I fulfilled my promise to see them at the gig.

Re: This Ain't No Picnic 2008

Sorry that I didn't say hi to anyone. It took a bit of time to work out really who you all were and to be honest, the weekend was so exhausting and downright odd (Polysics turned out to be only one part of a weekend that also saw me discussing the I Ching with british comics legend Alan Grant amongst other things!) that I was on a bit of an energy trough before the gig started. Afterwards I had to boost pretty sharpish or I definitely would have come up to talk. I know I saw you guys and I know you saw me, so next time I'd definitely like to meet up.

However, I got to meet them! We arrived a bit early and I decided to jump out for cash to buy a WATM T-shirt. My pal Michael had to finish his beer in the lobby before they'd let us out and as he was doing that they stumbled in off the bus! Seized the moment and went up to get a picture and talk.

They were exhausted, but Hiro very graciously posed for a quick snap (which is hilarious. Half his head is cut off from the teeth up and I'm so tired my eyes look half-open drunk. It's like I'm annihilated in a club and he's trying to crash my photo.). He was impressed at the ENO T-shirt (and laughed when I admitted it was a bootleg), Yano smiled, Kayo looked terrified and Fumi made me feel about twelve by just striding by, cool as ice.

I also realised when I got up to the stage that they had just planted Hiro's mic in front of me, so I got sweated on by the man himself and managed to nab his setlist at the end of the night! Score!

Again, only thing would have made it better is if I'd been a bit perkier to come over and talk. Were you guys sitting next to me up on the balcony? Did I have a very short conversation about my bag with someone from here?

Re: This Ain't No Picnic 2008

Most of us were up on the balcony for the few hours before they were playing, what's your name?
I think you were a bit to right of us at the front when they were playing cos we were pretty much in the middle of the stage.

Extra bits are coming back to me now, bumping into Kayo in the corridor just before they went on - "daijoubu desu ka" and all that, lots of shouting at Yano between songs and him smiling and feeling loved, starting the "PO-LY-SICS!" chant at the end, grabbing Fumi's shoe just cos I could and clapping out the beat of Baby Bias on Hiro's hips..... dear oh dear.
