The Dallas Myspace Records Tour POLYSICS SHOW TOISU!!
So, my fellow Polysics fan and I drove for about half an hour to Dallas' Palladium Ballroom. We arrived right at 6:00, but there were already 100s of people waiting for the doors to open. When we finally got in, I realized how *small* the venue was. Not a cozy small...just small and crammed way too full of MySpace brats... Many people looked decidedly bored...sitting around, texting... Little did these people realize that their minds were about to be blown.
No one was playing yet, so my friend and I squeezed through the crowd to get as close to the stage as possible. There were about two rows of unenthusiastic teenagers in front of us, followed by a barricade, an open space with an overly-serious-looking guard in it, and a dark stage. We all stood for about an hour waiting...we thought the Polysics would probably go on second, after Young Love....
...but then the stage brightened up and 4 orange jumpsuits jogged onto the stage.
"HELLO, DALLAAAAAAAS! WE ARE THE POLYSICS FROM TOKYO JAPAAAAAAAAAN!!!"
(small response from audience - except for the Polysics fans)
And then the fun began.
They immediately launched into "Kaja Kaja Goo" - a song much more fun live than on the album, IMO - with Hiro already in full conniption-like swing. By the second song he (and I - never gone quite so crazy at a concert before) was covered in sweat. Everytime the band would hit a down beat, little beads of moisture would go flying from his head.
The concert itself was a blur...I don't remember the song order or anything, but I do remember Electric Surfin' Go Go, I my me mine (of course), My Sharona, Baby Bias, Peach Pie on the Beach, and Coelakanth is Android being played. At first, the audience seemed bored - or perhaps a little shocked - but some row of jerks decided to start pushing on the rows ahead of them to create some sort of slow 'wave' (new wave? xD) mosh pit about mid-way through the set. Very annoying...
A couple interesting things that transpired on stage... Midway through one of the songs(not sure which one), Hiro got a little bold (admittedly, I didn't like these parts) and started to smack his guitar against his body, double-flicking off the audience, and (I really loved this xD) actually tapped the serious security guy on the head at one of the major downbeats. By the very end of the set, he was absolutely drenched in sweat, his glasses were off, and he was lying on the stage kicking his legs into the air - all while still playing. xDDD
And I, of course, was fangirling to the fullest the whole time, jumping 2-3 feet into the air, screaming, singing along...poor innocent bystanders who wouldn't get out of our way before the show... >xD
When they were done (it was a really short set - 45 minutes tops), they took down their own equipment (I think), and my friend and I immediately pushed our way out to get to the lobby/merch booth area. I was dying of thirst, so we bought a $3 bottle of water (omgwthbbq?!!?) and walked out, waiting for our beloved Polysics to come out and sign stuff.
We ended up waiting for about an hour and a half, during which we bought a total of two t-shirts and the Polysics or DIE!!!! (Vista) CD and hung around with the other Polysics fans. It was very much of an anime convention environment: I didn't know the names of any of the people I talking with - we were united simply be the fact that we loved this band. Unfortunately, at conventions (and this concert), I get a little annoying...so if any of you are reading this, I'm sorry! I'm not usually that obnoxious...only during exciting situations...
Well, good things come to those who wait, and the band (minus Kayo T^T) showed up in the lobby, sans costumes, as friendly and as normal as anyone you'd meet on the street. I suppose Hiro's insanity is a stage act. Anyway, they were extremely kind, giving hugs, photo-ops, and autographs to whoever asked. The language barrier hardly got in the way, and no 'glomps' or other rudeness were given.
However, the only hole in our hearts was the absence of Kayo (she's my favorite member of the band, for heaven's sake! D: ). So, about 15 of us (the fans that hadn't left) all walked to the door of the backstage and politely asked the security guard if we could see her. He went in, told us they were busy...so we waited there.
After about one minute, Hiro actually came out, asking who we wanted to see. He said Kayo was tired, but that he'd take our stuff to be signed two at a time and bring them back out. Please keep in mind that this guy is an international rock star who could have just as easily turned us away...but he was kind enough to actually *run errands* for his crazy fans. Now I know why I love these guys so much... ^^
All in all, other than the fact I never got to meet Kayo and I lost the old promo poster I brought with me to be signed (oh, well...there's a poster that comes with the CD), it was one of the most amazing musical experiences of my life. I can't wait for them to come stateside once again...
